Law enforcement authorities are currently investigating a shooting at a local park that left a teenage victim injured from a gunshot wound.
The shooting took place at the Dwight Hawkins Park in Deltona on Monday, January 15, at around 3:20 p.m., according to a statement from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives reported that a 17-year-old was sitting on a bench at the park when he was injured by a gunshot to his leg.
No additional details were provided regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting.
A deputy who responded to the scene immediately applied a tourniquet and provided first aid until Deltona Fire Rescue arrived at the scene.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and detectives are currently investigating the circumstances behind the shooting.
