A 35-year-old man from DeLand was killed early this morning after he attempted to change lanes and struck a car, causing his sprinter van to veer off the roadway and overturn multiple times.
The fatal accident took place near mile marker 212 on Interstate 95 at around 5:10 a.m. on Thursday.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van southbound on the highway when he attempted to change lanes.
As he was changing from the center lane to the inside lane, the left side of his vehicle collided with the right side of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata.
After the impact, the driver attempted to overcorrect and ran off the right side of the roadway, across the southbound lanes and into the right shoulder.
The van then overturned multiple times and struck multiple trees before landing on its roof in the tree line.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 23-year-old man from Melbourne, was transported to Rockledge Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
