A 63-year-old motorcyclist was killed after he collided head-on with a vehicle that entered his lane while attempting to pass another vehicle.
The fatal accident took place near the intersection of State Road 40 and Lake Winona Road on Friday, January 19, at around 4:01 p.m.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist, who was from Palm Coast, was riding a 2018 Honda Motorcycle eastbound on SR 40, just west of Lake Winona Road.
A 60-year-old DeLand man was driving a 2016 RAM 1500 westbound on SR 40 when he entered the eastbound lane to pass traffic. As a result, the pickup truck entered the direct path of the motorcycle, resulting in a head-on collision.
The impact caused the pickup truck to run off the right side of the roadway and onto the right shoulder.
The motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The DeLand man was taken to AdventHealth DeLand with minor injuries.
