Man who smuggled cocaine into Orlando sentenced to five years

A 38-year-old man who smuggled multiple kilograms of cocaine from the Dominican Republic to Orlando will spend the next five years behind bars.

Roman Batista, of Kissimmee, was sentenced to five years in federal prison for importing cocaine into the United States.

According to court records, Batista flew from the Dominican Republic to the Orlando International Airport on July 10, 2023.

After obtaining his luggage from the baggage claim area at the airport, Batista was referred to for a bag examination.

During an examination of the luggage by Customs and Border Protection Officers, approximately 2,994 grams of cocaine was found hidden inside of a speaker.

Batista previously pled guilty on September 25, 2023.
