Bicyclist struck, killed on Colonial Drive

A 59-year-old bicyclist was killed after he was struck by a vehicle on East Colonial Drive.

The fatal accident took place near the intersection of East Colonial Drive/State Road 50 and 3rd Street in Bithlo on Saturday, February 24, at around 9:57 p.m.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the bicyclist, who was from Christmas, was traveling south across the travel lanes of East Colonial Drive at the intersection with 3rd Street.

The bicyclist entered the direct path of a 1996 BMW 740IL that was traveling eastbound on Colonial Drive. As a result, the front of the vehicle struck the bicyclist.

The driver and passenger in the vehicle, both from Orlando, were uninjured in the crash.

The bicyclist was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced deceased.
