Carolyn Foy Barry

Carolyn Foy Barry died on March 8, 2024 following a lengthy illness. Carolyn’s beautiful smile and sweet disposition brought joy to everyone she met during this difficult journey.

Born on November 25, 1941, Carolyn was the oldest daughter of the late John Wesley and Sallie Mae McCurry Foy.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Charles Barry, of Windermere, Florida, daughter Marguerite (Meg) Bowen and son-in-law Stephen Bowen of Windermere, Florida, daughter Jacqueline Allen of Carrboro, North Carolina, sister and brother-in-law, Martha Foy Hilley and Dave Hilley of Kingman, Kansas, sisters-in-law Maggie Foy of Rome, Georgia, and Janice Foy of Columbia, South Carolina, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Her four brothers, John Sanford Foy, Gordon Foy, Raymond Foy, and Robert Foy, preceded her in death.

Carolyn attended Avondale High School and Decatur High School in GA, until she was 16, when the family moved to Orlando, FL where she graduated from William R. Boone High School in 1959. Carolyn overcame many challenges to enjoy a happy and fulfilling life. Carolyn held a variety of jobs during her career and was an early champion of the environment, committing her time and effort to Audubon Bird Counts each year.

She was a devoted mother who by example taught her daughters to be self-reliant and strong. In retirement Carolyn moved with her husband Charles to Abingdon, VA. Along with her husband, she was a volunteer usher at the Barter Theater, enjoying many live performances. Later she and her husband moved to Daytona Beach, Florida where they volunteered counting Right Whales off the Atlantic Coast. Carolyn and her husband visited all 50 states together and were married in Hawaii.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. to celebrate Carolyn’s life at Winter Oak Funeral Home and Cremations.
