A 74-year-old Orlando man was killed on Sunday evening after his scooter was involved in a crash at an intersection in Orange County.
The fatal crash occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, at the intersection of Town Loop Boulevard and Town Center Boulevard.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the elderly man was riding a 2020 Jiajue scooter as he headed northbound on Town Loop Boulevard, near the intersection of Town Center Boulevard, in the outside lane.
FHP stated that a 2021 Honda CR-V with four occupants – a 44-year-old woman (driver), 35-year-old man, and two children, all from Kissimmee – was traveling in the outside lane on Town Center Boulevard, approaching the same intersection.
A trooper noted that when the scooter’s rider reached the intersection, he attempted to make a right turn onto Town Center Boulevard. As a result, he entered the direct path of the Honda, and the front left side of the scooter proceeded to strike the SUV’s right front side.
The rider and sole occupant of the scooter was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The report stated that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The four occupants of the SUV were also transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Due to the accident, the eastbound lanes of Town Center Boulevard and northbound lanes of Town Loop Boulevard were temporarily blocked in the area.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
