A 27-year-old Orlando man has been indicted on a drug trafficking charge after he was allegedly caught with over 20 kilograms of cocaine in his possession.
On Monday, U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg of the Middle District of Florida announced the return of an indictment charging Tyrone Jose Beltran Lugo with possession of cocaine (five kilograms or more) with intent to distribute.
According to court records, a federal search warrant was executed at a residence used by Beltran Lugo.
During that search, Drug Enforcement Administration agents found over 20 kilograms of cocaine, approximately $96,000 in currency, nearly 85 grams of heroin, and two loaded handguns with extended magazines.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from the United States Postal Inspection Service and Orange County Sheriff’s Office. It will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Noah P. Dorman.
An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law. Every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.
If convicted, Beltran Lugo faces a maximum penalty of life in federal prison.
