John D. Wright

Reverend John D. Wright, 70, of Orlando, transitioned from labor to reward on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Rev. Wright was born on September 26, 1953 in Charleston, SC to the late Rachel and George Wright. He later met and married is devoted wife Virginia P. Wright, who served along side him throughout their ministry.

Reverend Wright was called to the ministry and ordained as an Itinerate Elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he served for over 20 years. His invaluable lessons touched the lives of many members and visitors of Calvary Church, Kissimmee. In 2004, he and his wife became co-pastors of Way, Truth and Life Ministries of Orlando.

The motto Rev. Wright carried with him, “if I can help somebody as I pass this way, then my living shall not be in vain” became a major tool he used to guide countless souls to the ever- open door of Christ. Gaining the love and respect from many, Rev. Wright’s light became a strong, gravitational pillar for every community he served. No matter where life took him, he continued to serve God and people in what ever capacity was needed.

Rev. Wright breathed his last breath and put on his new robe of glory on April 4th. His ministry and legacy will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Virginia Wright; children, Erica Wright and Brian Lewis; siblings, Mary (Isaac) Dickson, Earl Wright, Charles (Carol) Wright, Winston (Kelley) Baker; the entire Wright family, colleagues, past congregations he served and numerous friends. Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.
