A 68-year-old DeBary woman died on Thursday after being found unresponsive in the community pool at a local apartment complex.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with Volusia County Fire Rescue crews and paramedics, responded to the Integra 289 Exchange apartment complex located at 115 Integra Reserve Lane at around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 9.
The sheriff’s office stated that a witness on a nearby balcony had spotted a person floating in the pool. The witness pulled the victim out of the water and began performing CPR until law enforcement and paramedics arrived on scene.
According to VCSO, the victim regained a pulse and was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Sadly, she was unable to recover and passed away on Thursday afternoon.
The victim has been identified as Joanne Poole.
During an investigation, VCSO detectives obtained video surveillance footage that showed the victim getting into the pool alone. Shortly after entering the water, the victim “began to struggle.”
Detectives state that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the victim’s death. Her official cause of death will be determined after an autopsy has been completed.
In a social media post, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office stated that it sends its sincere condolences to family members and friends of the victim.
