The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian who was walking along Curry Ford Road in Orange County on Thursday night.
According to FHP, the fatal accident took place at around 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Curry Ford Road and Colton Drive.
The pedestrian, a 28-year-old Orlando man, was walking in a westerly direction on Curry Ford Road in the south grass shoulder, just north of the sidewalk.
FHP stated that at the same time, a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Curry Ford Road, near the intersection of Colton Drive, when the driver lost control and veered off the roadway in a southeasterly direction.
The vehicle’s left tires entered the bike lane, and the right tires entered the grass shoulder. Moments later, the right front of the vehicle proceeded to collide with the pedestrian.
After the collision, the vehicle fled eastbound on Curry Ford Road before turning onto Goldenrod Road and entering the parking lot of a nearby Walgreens.
After parking the vehicle, the driver exited the driver’s door and checked on the damage that the vehicle had sustained. The driver then re-entered the vehicle and left the parking lot in an unknown direction, according to FHP.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His name was not released by FHP.
An FHP trooper noted in the report that the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run crash is “possibly a white in color sedan.” The vehicle should have damage to the right mirror and a broken right headlight, as well as damage on the right side of the front windshield.
Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 407-737-2213 or the Central Florida Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS(8477).
