A 28-year-old burglary suspect was shot on Tuesday after he entered a home in Kissimmee.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home located on Royal Palm Drive on Tuesday, May 21, in reference to a burglary in progress. When they arrived at the incident location, the burglary suspect – identified as David Martinez-Estrada – was already inside the residence.
The sheriff’s office stated that deputies contacted Martinez-Estrada while he was inside the home, and they ordered him to step outside the residence. Martinez-Estrada “failed to comply” with those orders, and he “continued to go further” into the home.
Moments later, the deputies heard gunfire from inside the residence, and Martinez-Estrada soon exited the home advising that he had been shot, according to OCSO.
Deputies rendered aid to Martinez-Estrada, and he was transported to a local hospital.
A female victim spoke with deputies and claimed that she “acted in defense of herself and her family.” According to the victim’s statement, Martinez-Estrada allegedly “forced his way” into a bedroom that the victim and her family were in.
After receiving medical treatment, Martinez-Estrada was arrested and transported to Osceola County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. He is being charged with criminal mischief with damage over $200 but less than $1,000, unarmed burglary of a dwelling, stalking, and resisting an officer without violence.
No further details were provided by the sheriff’s office regarding the incident.
