The International Olympic Committee has officially revealed the specific sports that will be featured when Orlando hosts the final stop of the 2028 Olympic Q-Series.

In a media release on Wednesday, July 8, the IOC stated that Orlando will stage flag football, beach volleyball, climbing, and skateboarding park.

The Q-Series, formerly known as the Olympic Qualifier Series, is a four-stop global tour on the road to the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The 2028 edition builds upon the inaugural 2024 events, expanding the concept to four host cities and six total sports.

The events are designed to bring qualification rounds closer to fans, combining high-performance competitions with an urban festival atmosphere. In addition to entertaining attendees with sports, music, and culture, the series will offer participating athletes an opportunity to secure direct qualifying spots for the 2028 Olympic Games before the multi-sport event begins.

The four stops of the 2028 Olympic Q-Series will feature different combinations of the six sports and will be held on the following dates:

  • Tokyo (May 4-7, 2028): 3×3 basketball, BMX freestyle, climbing, and skateboarding (park and street).
  • Shanghai (May 11-14, 2028): 3×3 basketball, beach volleyball, BMX freestyle, and climbing.
  • Montreal (June 1-4, 2028): Flag football, beach volleyball, BMX freestyle, and skateboarding (park).
  • Orlando (June 8-11, 2028): Flag football, beach volleyball, climbing, and skateboarding (park).

“The Q-Series is an exciting global event on the road to the LA28 Olympic Games,” said IOC President Kirsty Coventry following the initial host city announcements. “It’s one format, four stops, six sports. The goal is to boost athlete visibility and global fan engagement. We cannot wait for the series to kick off.”

Local leaders have previously expressed their excitement about Orlando joining Tokyo, Shanghai, and Montreal on the global stage.

“Our community has a proven track record of delivering world-class events and has earned its place as the nation’s premier sports destination,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “We look forward to collaborating across our community to host this four-day urban sport showcase, which will allow our city to once again play a part in the Olympic Games.”

Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings echoed that sentiment, noting that the selection highlights the community’s readiness to shine internationally.

“By strategically investing Tourist Development Tax dollars into our sports venues, we are delivering an exceptional experience for athletes and fans while further solidifying our reputation as a premier destination for major international events,” stated Demings.

Further details on the 2028 Olympic Q-Series, including ticketing and broadcasting information for each stop, will be confirmed at a later date.

The 2028 Summer Olympics are scheduled to begin in Los Angeles on July 14, 2028.
