An 11-year-old student has been arrested in Volusia County after he allegedly made a kill list and threatened to conduct a shooting at two local middle schools.
According to Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood, the 11-year-old boy “had written a list of names and targets,” which included Creekside Middle School (6801 Airport Road in Port Orange) and Silver Sands Middle School (1300 Herbert Street in Port Orange).
The boy is currently a student at Creekside Middle School.
Sheriff Chitwood stated that during a search of the boy’s home, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies recovered “a bunch of airsoft rifles, pistols and fake ammunition,” along with “knives, swords and other weapons he was showing off to other students in a video.”
The sheriff added that the boy has been charged with making a written threat of a mass shooting, which is a felony.
In a social media post on Monday, September 16, Sheriff Chitwood stated, “I can and will release the names and photos of juveniles who are committing these felonies, threatening our students, disrupting our schools and consuming law enforcement resources.”
