A fiery crash on an Interstate 4 exit ramp in Volusia County left one person dead on Monday morning.

According to a preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a car was traveling eastbound on I-4, approaching the overpass for State Road 44 on the exit ramp for 118B (New York Avenue), at around 3:20 a.m. on Monday, February 3.

The report stated that the car veered off the roadway and onto the grass shoulder before striking an electrical panel.

After the initial impact, the car continued along the shoulder and collided with the corner of the overpass bridge support.

Flames soon engulfed the car, and its driver and sole occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

“At this time, the year, make, or model is unknown due to the condition of (the car),” noted a trooper in the report. The trooper added that the medical examiner’s office will update FHP once the driver has been positively identified.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
