Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) State Trooper Car

A 76-year-old Cocoa man was killed on Saturday night after his minivan struck several mailboxes, a sign, and a parked car before crashing into a home in Brevard County.

The fatal crash occurred at around 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, near the intersection of Fay Boulevard and Deer Lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol’s accident report.

FHP stated that the elderly driver was traveling westbound on Fay Boulevard in a 2006 Honda Odyssey. As he approached the intersection of Deer Lane, his vehicle veered off the roadway for an unknown reason, striking a mailbox and speed limit sign.

The minivan then proceeded to strike another mailbox before veering to the right and colliding with a fence. Moments later, the vehicle struck a Chevrolet Impala that was parked in the driveway of a home, according to the report.

The series of collisions came to an end when the minivan crashed into the home, causing the garage door to strike two vehicles – a Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet El Camino – that were parked inside.

An FHP trooper noted that two residents were inside the home at the time of the accident, and they were not injured.

The driver and sole occupant of the Honda Odyssey involved in the collisions sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The report indicated that he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
