A woman was killed, and a man was injured, after their Mercedes-Benz rear-ended a semi-truck in Orlando early Saturday morning.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at around 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, at the intersection of Landstreet Road and Orange Avenue.
The Mercedes-Benz was traveling westbound on Landstreet Road, in the inside lane, when it approached the intersection of Orange Avenue. FHP stated that the car’s driver failed to see a semi-truck that was stopped ahead for a red light.
As a result, the front of the Mercedes-Benz crashed into the rear of the semi-truck.
The two occupants of the Mercedes-Benz – a 39-year-old woman (driver) and 33-year-old man (passenger), both from Orlando – were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center. The driver was later pronounced deceased at the hospital, and the passenger’s injuries were described in the report as “serious.”
A trooper noted in the report that the Mercedes-Benz’s occupants were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The driver and sole occupant of the semi-truck, a 32-year-old Georgia man, was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
