A 21-year-old man was arrested by DeLand police after potentially explosive devices were found inside his home.

On Friday, April 11, at around 11:30 a.m., DeLand Police Department officers responded to a home located on Marlboro Drive after receiving a call for assistance. A man was outside the home when officers arrived, and he gave his consent for the officers to search the property, according to DPD.

Inside the home, an officer spotted several suspicious items that included two colored glass bottles, which were filled with liquid and had a “white cloth-like material protruding from their openings.” The police department stated that the bottles appeared to be homemade incendiary devices that were “consistent with Molotov cocktails.”

The officers secured the residence and obtained a search warrant. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad soon arrived on scene and searched the home, where they found multiple glass bottles that contained a “flammable and combustible” liquid.

In a media release, DPD said that field testing revealed that the liquid inside the bottles was “capable of causing an explosion.”

Investigators determined that the potentially explosive devices belonged to 21-year-old Sebastian Tinsley. He was placed under arrest and booked into Volusia County Jail on two counts of possession of a fire bomb.

An arraignment hearing for Tinsley is scheduled to take place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, according to Volusia County Court records.
