A multi-vehicle crash on State Road 408 in Orange County claimed the life of an Orlando man and left three others seriously injured early Sunday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol’s report stated that the crash occurred at around 3:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, near mile marker 21 on SR 408.
According to FHP, a 2015 Ford Edge was heading eastbound on SR 408 in the center lane when its driver, a 22-year-old St. Johns woman, failed to see two vehicles – a 2019 Dodge Durango and a 2007 Ford Expedition with a tow dolly attached – that were stopped in the same lane due to a prior crash.
A total of four individuals were involved in the previous crash: a 35-year-old Orlando man (Dodge Durango’s driver and sole occupant), 20-year-old Orlando man (Ford Expedition’s driver), 21-year-old Orlando woman (passenger), and 9-month-old girl (passenger).
Those four individuals were standing in the center lane of SR 408, between the Dodge Durango and Ford Expedition, when the Ford Edge approached both vehicles and rear-ended the Dodge Durango. After the initial impact, the Dodge Durango propelled forward, striking the four individuals.
The driver of the Dodge Durango was transported to AdventHealth East Orlando, where he was pronounced deceased.
The two adult occupants of the Ford Expedition were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The vehicle’s infant passenger was transported to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in serious condition.
A trooper noted in the report that the driver and sole occupant of the Ford Edge avoided injury and remained on-scene.
Due to the accident, all eastbound lanes were shut down on SR 408 at mile marker 21 on Sunday morning, with traffic being diverted at exit 20 (Rouse Road).
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
