A man accused of driving a vehicle that was used in a deadly robbery-turned-shooting has been arrested by Orlando police.
On Tuesday, April 29, the Orlando Police Department announced that its Fugitive Investigative Unit has apprehended Ibanys Oliver, 43, for his alleged involvement in a fatal shooting that claimed the life of another man last month.
Back on Saturday, March 15, at around 2:50 a.m., OPD officers responded to the 5700 block of Curry Ford Road after several 911 callers reported hearing multiple gunshots coming from a van that was parked nearby, according to police.
When officers arrived at the incident location, they found the victim, identified as Luis G. Vicente-Martinez, who had sustained a gunshot wound inside the van.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A homicide investigation was launched by OPD, and detectives determined that the victim had been fatally shot during a robbery. The suspected shooter, identified as 27-year-old Gabriel Joel Bruno De Leon, was believed to have fled to Puerto Rico.
On Friday, April 11, nearly one month after the fatal shooting, Bruno De Leon was located and apprehended in Puerto Rico by several law enforcement agencies that included the U.S. Marshal Service, Homeland Security, and the San Juan Extradition Unit.
Bruno De Leon was placed under arrest and charged with first-degree murder with a firearm, robbery with a firearm, and second-degree grand theft.
At the time of Bruno De Leon’s arrest, OPD stated on social media that there were no other outstanding suspects in this case. However, detectives ultimately determined that a second suspect, identified as Oliver, had allegedly driven the vehicle that was used in the murder of Vicente-Martinez.
Oliver has been arrested and charged with accessory after the fact, which is a capital felony.
No further details regarding the ongoing investigation were provided by OPD.
