A 20-year-old Orlando man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of his three-month-old daughter.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Darius Stephone Nichols recently told investigators that his infant daughter, Nova, “became unresponsive” after allegedly falling from a sofa on Wednesday, April 30.
However, OCSO stated that an autopsy revealed that Nova’s skull was “fractured in numerous places,” and she also had several rib fractures from “previous incidents” that were in the process of healing at the time of her death.
No further details were provided by the sheriff’s office.
On Monday, May 5, Nichols was placed under arrest and transported to Orange County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. He is being charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
“In her short life, baby Nova suffered horrific abuse and trauma,” said OCSO in a social media post. “She is resting peacefully now, and our detectives will get justice for baby Nova.”
