Born Oct 09, 1945. A proud Florida native and third-generation Orlando resident, Lois passed away peacefully Apr 01, 2025 surrounded by her sons and love.

Born and raised in Orlando, daughter of Helen Elaine Huber and Nelson Carmine Huber. Beloved granddaughter of Alexander Thomas MacKay. She came from a long line of educators – following in the footsteps of both her mother and grandmother – and devoted her life to education, compassion, and family. Lois earned her Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of North Carolina and spent her career nurturing young children, especially those with disabilities. After several years of teaching and counseling Lois dedicated herself full-time to raising her two sons where her passion for education continued through the PTA and unwavering support of her children’s growth and learning.

Lois was known both for her stubbornness and compassionate wisdom – the latter she inherited from her beloved mother, Helen, who taught her to always keep an open mind. She loved learning and books and expressed her creativity in the kitchen, at the sewing machine, and in the garden. Though she eventually had to give up sewing and gardening, she never stopped cooking, and reading, and recording the words she found most meaningful for her granddaughter, Raegan.

Lois was proud to continue a family tradition as a member of the Orlando Rosalind Club where both her mother and grandmother had also been members. Her family’s deep connection to the Presbyterian faith spanned generations, and in her later years, Lois found spiritual community at Park Lake Presbyterian Church.

Lois is survived by her older son, Robert MacKay Shipp, his wife, Allison Lynn Shipp, and their daughter, Raegan MacKay Shipp, residing in San Diego, California, and by her younger son, Peter McCluney Shipp, of Orlando, Florida.

Hospice care held a special place in Lois’s heart ever since she witnessed their compassionate support when her mother passed away. In her final days, Lois once again received that same extraordinary care. In honor of her life and legacy, donations may be made to the Cornerstone Hospice Foundation.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday June 21st at Greenwood Cemetery, 1603 Greenwood Street Orlando, Florida 32801.

Lois’s kindness, her gentle spirit, and her dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
