Six people were killed in a fiery crash on Saturday afternoon after their SUV collided with a semi-truck in Osceola County.
The fatal crash occurred at around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at the intersection of State Road 60 and S Kenansville Road, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report stated that six individuals – possibly three adults and three children – were traveling westbound on State Road 60 in a 2024 Hyundai Tucson. When the SUV was near the S Kenansville Road intersection, the driver entered the oncoming lane to pass several vehicles.
According to the report, the SUV’s driver proceeded to lose control of the vehicle after attempting to re-enter the westbound lane. As a result, the left side of the SUV crashed into the front of a semi-truck that was traveling eastbound on State Road 60.
Moments after the collision, both vehicles became fully engulfed in flames. The six occupants of the SUV were trapped in the wreckage, and they were pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident, according to the report.
“The Medical Examiner’s Office will update FHP once they have positively identified the deceased,” said a trooper in the report.
The driver and sole occupant of the semi-truck, a 36-year-old man from Miami Gardens, was hospitalized for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
