Marvanine Cadine Walker, affectionately called Carol by family, was born to the late Arthur and Frances Walker on January 7th 1956, in Watt Town, St Ann Jamaica W.I.
She was the first of two children born to Mr and Mrs Walker. Marvanine spent her younger years living with her grandparents (Mrs. Agriepina and Charles Jarrett) in Watt Town before joining her parents who had moved to Kingston in pursuit of better opportunities. After a few years, her younger brother Glendon was born in Kingston and needed supervision of a big sister while their parents worked, so Marvanine moved to Kingston to join the rest of her family.
In Kingston, Marvanine attended Duhaney Park Primary School and later Meadowbrook High School where she obtained her high school diploma. While in high school, Marvanine excelled in Spanish because she had the advantage of her own personal Spanish instructor, none other than her beloved grandfather, “PaPa” who had spent some time in Cuba. In pursuit of her dreams, Marvanine applied and was successfully accepted into the University Hospital of the West Indies School of Nursing where she successfully completed her studies to become a Registered Nurse, graduating in 1977.
Setting her sights even higher, she then entered Cornwall Regional Hospital School of Midwifery in Montego Bay, Jamaica. After obtaining her license as a midwife, Marvanine worked at Cornwall Regional Hospital and then on to Alexandria Hospital while in her home parish of St. Ann. While Marvanine studied, the rest of her family migrated to the United States and Marvanine later joined them in New Jersey. Upon her arrival to the US, Marvanine got her first job at Franklin Park Nursing Home and later on to Metropolitan Hospital in New York City in the 1990s, where she worked for 12 years.
True to her passion to pursue higher education, Marvanine enrolled in Lehman College in the Bronx, New York and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Health Care. She did this while holding down a full time job at the hospital. Sometime around 2003, Marvanine felt led to move to Florida so she made the necessary preparations and moved to Kissimmee and was joined a few years later by her late Aunt Millicent and her beloved brother Glendon. She became a member of The Master’s Touch International Church, now known as The Church on the Living Edge, led by Dr. Mark Chironna. Until her retirement a few years ago, Marvanine worked at Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee. Today, we mourn the loss of a sister, niece, cousin, godmother, dear friend but mostly a true child of God.
She is survived by her brother Glendon Walker, Uncles – Dukiel and wife Orviel Jarrett of Jamaica, and Webley Jarrett of New Jersey. Cousins – Natasha (and children), Ivor & Errod, Goddaughter – Lorian, and a host of their family and friends. Marvanine you are gone from this life to a better place but you will always be in our hearts.
A public visitation for Marvanine will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 12:00 p..m to 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734.
