A man traveling on Interstate 4 in Seminole County was killed on Monday morning after his car veered off an overpass and struck a vehicle on the roadway below.

The fatal crash, which involved a 2008 Honda Accord and 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, occurred at around 10:05 a.m. on Monday, October 6, in the area of I-4 eastbound and State Road 46 (mile marker 102) in Sanford, according to a preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that the Honda was traveling eastbound on I-4, near the overpass of SR 46. At the same time, the Mercedes-Benz had come to a stop on SR 46 in the left turn lane.

For reasons that are unknown, the Honda veered off the roadway to the left and struck the median guardrail. This impact caused the Honda to overturn and fall from the overpass onto SR 46.

Moments later, the Honda collided with the Mercedes-Benz on the roadway.

The Honda’s driver, identified in the report as an adult male, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.

The sole occupant of the Mercedes-Benz, a 21-year-old Sanford woman, was not hurt and remained on-scene.

Due to the accident, both directions of travel on SR 46 are currently blocked.

An FHP trooper noted that the crash remains under investigation.
