The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for several vehicles that were involved in a hit-and-run crash in Volusia County that killed a pedestrian early Sunday morning.
The fatal crash occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday, October 19, near the intersection of International Speedway Boulevard and Calle Alto Vista, according to an FHP report.
A trooper noted that the pedestrian, a 54-year-old Deltona man, was walking across the westbound lanes of International Speedway Boulevard, east of the Calle Alto Vista intersection, when he was struck by an unknown vehicle’s left side mirror.
As a result of the initial collision, the pedestrian fell onto the roadway, and he was struck by several other vehicles.
The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. The report mentioned that he was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident.
FHP stated that the vehicles involved in the accident proceeded to flee from the area, heading westbound on International Speedway Boulevard.
