Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) State Trooper Car

The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a semi-truck that was involved in a hit-and-run crash along Interstate 95 in Volusia County early Wednesday morning.

According to FHP, troopers responded to I-95 northbound, near mile marker 234, at around 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, after receiving reports of a hit-and-run crash with serious injuries.

Prior to the collision, a disabled 2011 semi-truck was parked on the outside shoulder of I-95. A 28-year-old Jacksonville man was standing on the outside shoulder as he attempted to repair the vehicle.

FHP states that a second vehicle, referred to as an “unknown semi tractor-trailer,” was heading northbound on the interstate in the outside lane when its driver failed to spot the man on the shoulder.

As a result, the right side of the second vehicle struck the man. After the initial impact, the second vehicle fled from the scene.

Paramedics arrived on-scene and transported the man to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment of serious injuries.

FHP investigators believe that the semi-truck involved in the hit-and-run crash should have damage to its right side.

No further details were provided by FHP.
