An Orlando man died on Saturday night after he was struck by a sport utility vehicle while running near an intersection in Orange County.
The fatal accident occurred at around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, at the intersection of Silver Star Road and N Hiawassee Road in Orlando, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report stated that a Honda CR-4 was traveling westbound on Silver Star Road, in the outside lane, when it approached the intersection of Hiawassee Road.
At the same time, a 29-year-old Orlando man was running in a northerly direction when he entered the westbound lanes of Silver Star Road. He proceeded to step into the direct path of the SUV, resulting in a collision.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver and sole occupant of the SUV, a 20-year-old Orlando man, was not hurt and remained on-scene.
An FHP trooper noted in the report that the crash remains under investigation.
