A 41-year-old Sanford man was killed on New Year’s Day after the Cadillac he was driving collided with a tree.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at around 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, at the intersection of Markham Woods Road and Enclave Cove in Seminole County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol’s accident report.

The Sanford man was traveling northbound on Markham Woods Road in a 2009 Cadillac CTS when he approached Enclave Cove.

A trooper noted in the report that the Cadillac was “traveling above the posted speed limit” when the driver veered off the roadway to the right and entered the nearby woodline. The vehicle then proceeded to rotate before striking a tree.

The driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The report mentioned that he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
