A 14-year-old Volusia County boy was arrested at his school, weeks after a “door-kicking prank” at a local residence led to the death of a dog.

Back on the night of Saturday, December 20, 2025, a female victim returned to her residence in Deltona and discovered that the front door had been kicked in. In addition, her dog – a three-year-old Yorkshire terrier named “Spookie” – was missing, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

In a media release, VCSO said that Spookie was sadly found deceased along the side of a road. Deputies believe that Spookie was struck by a vehicle while he was loose.

VCSO launched an investigation, which revealed that several teens had attended a party in the area on the night of the incident. Those teens then allegedly “went out to play ‘ding dong ditch’ in the neighborhood.”

One of the victim’s neighbors had a security camera that captured audio of the incident, which allegedly revealed that a 14-year-old boy from DeLand had repeatedly kicked the victim’s front door. Due to the multiple strikes, the door was forced open, resulting in the victim’s dog running out of the home.

On Monday, January 26, 2026, the 14-year-old boy was arrested at his school, and he is facing felony and misdemeanor charges in connection with this case.

No further details regarding the incident were provided by VCSO.
