A 74-year-old Ohio man was fatally struck by a car while walking near an intersection in Volusia County on Monday evening.
The crash occurred at around 6:55 p.m. on Monday, February 23, near the intersection of Big Tree Road and La Costa Village Boulevard in Port Orange, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 20-year-old Daytona Beach man was traveling eastbound on Big Tree Road in a Toyota Corolla when he approached La Costa Village Boulevard.
An FHP trooper noted that the elderly pedestrian was walking in a southerly direction when he stepped onto Big Tree Road, directly in the path of the Toyota.
The driver attempted to swerve the Toyota to the left. However, the report stated that the right front section of the car hit the pedestrian.
After the collision, the driver remained at the accident site. He was not injured.
The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
