A 30-year-old man was charged with attempted murder after his gun reportedly malfunctioned during a failed shooting in a Kissimmee parking lot.
On Thursday, March 12, shortly after 1:55 p.m., two individuals – Melkin Vazquez Romero and an unidentified victim – got into a heated argument in a parking lot located in the 2600 block of W Vine Street, according to the Kissimmee Police Department.
KPD stated that this altercation quickly turned physical. During the ensuing brawl, the victim reportedly “displayed a knife,” and Vazquez Romero left the area.
Vazquez Romero later returned to the incident location, and a loaded firearm was allegedly in his possession. According to Kissimmee police, Vazquez Romero reportedly pointed the gun at the victim and “attempted to fire it twice.”
However, the firearm “malfunction(ed),” and no shots were fired.
An investigation into the incident was launched by Kissimmee police, and detectives eventually identified Vazquez Romero as the suspect in this case.
Vazquez Romero was placed under arrest and booked into Osceola County Jail. He remains in custody without bond, and he is being charged with attempted first-degree premeditated murder.
