Two construction workers are recovering at a local hospital after they were reportedly shot while confronting two men who were stealing tools from a Winter Park job site.

On Tuesday, March 24, Winter Park Police Department officers responded to the 200 block of Overlook Road in Winter Park in reference to shots being fired. When officers arrived, they found two adult male construction workers who had sustained gunshot wounds, according to WPD.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. WPD said that the victims are “in stable condition and alert.”

According to Winter Park police, the victims were working at the incident location when the shooting took place. The victims had reportedly confronted two suspects – later identified as 37-year-old Frederick Leonzo Callaway and 28-year-old James Robinson – over tools that had been stolen from the construction site.

When the victims approached Callaway and Robinson, they were reportedly shot by the suspects.

After the shooting, Callaway and Robinson allegedly fled from the construction site in a vehicle. After obtaining a description of the vehicle, officers were able to locate it, and a traffic stop was attempted.

However, WPD stated that the suspects refused to pull over their vehicle, and a high-speed pursuit ensued. The chase ultimately came to an end when the suspects’ vehicle crashed in a parking lot in Lake Mary.

Callaway and Robinson were both placed under arrest and booked into Seminole County Jail. They are facing the following charges: attempted felony murder, armed burglary of a structure, armed robbery, discharging a firearm from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of any person, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, and discharging a firearm in public.
