A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help support the family of a two-year-old girl who was struck and killed by a car on a Volusia County beach.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation revealed that the toddler, identified as Avery Lynn, ran onto the beach near E 7th Avenue in New Smyrna Beach at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 23.
VCSO stated that Avery proceeded to “run into a traffic lane,” directly in the path of an oncoming car.
Moments later, the fatal collision occurred. Avery was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
In a media release, VCSO said that the driver remained at the scene. The sheriff’s office added that speed and impairment are not believed to be factors in the fatal crash.
“The Volusia Sheriff’s Office sends our deepest condolences to the child’s family,” said the agency.
As Avery’s family mourns her sudden loss, a GoFundMe account has been set up to assist them with funeral expenses and memorial costs.
“On May 23, 2026, our Avery Lynn was taken from us in a tragic accident,” said the fundraiser’s organizer. “She was a bright light in our lives, and her loss has left the family heartbroken and struggling to come to terms with this unimaginable tragedy.”
The campaign page describes Avery as a child who “had so much spirit” and “could light up a room just by being herself.” The organizer added that Avery’s “loving nature touched everyone she met, and her sweetness made her truly unforgettable.”
As of 3 p.m. on Monday, May 25, the GoFundMe account benefiting Avery’s family has raised over $7,300 of its $9,000 goal.
“Your support is greatly appreciated as we navigate through this unbearable time,” the organizer stated. “Sharing this fundraiser or donating will help us honor Avery’s memory and support her family when they need it most.”
