A toll booth attendant was killed on Monday afternoon after a pickup truck crashed into her booth before driving into the ocean in Daytona Beach Shores.

The fatal crash occurred at around 12:40 p.m. at the Dunlawton Avenue beach access ramp, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies stated that a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Dunlawton Avenue when it struck the toll booth, which was occupied by the attendant at the time.

Following the initial collision, the truck continued onto the beach and drove into the ocean.

“Despite rescue efforts on scene, the toll attendant did not survive her injuries,” said VCSO in a social media post.

The pickup truck’s driver has been detained by law enforcement, and a thorough investigation into the crash is underway, according to the sheriff’s office.

VCSO noted that the Dunlawton beach access ramp will remain closed until further notice.

No further details regarding the incident were provided by law enforcement.
