A 28-year-old Apopka woman died in a fiery Orange County crash late Thursday night, just minutes after she allegedly fled the scene of a separate collision.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the fatal crash occurred at around 11:35 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, near the intersection of Old Winter Garden Road and Pine Hills Road.

FHP investigators reportedly determined that several minutes prior to the fatal wreck, the Apopka woman’s Honda Accord was involved in a separate hit-and-run crash at the intersection of W Colonial Drive and North Pine Hills Road

In that initial collision, the Honda Accord reportedly struck a Dodge Journey, causing minor damage. The driver of the Dodge, identified as a 28-year-old Orlando man, was not injured.

Minutes later, the Apopka woman was traveling southbound on Pine Hills Road, in the right turn lane, when she approached the intersection of Old Winter Garden Road at a “high rate of speed,” according to the report.

When the woman failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, her Honda Accord proceeded to veer off the right side of the road, where it reportedly struck a curb. Following that initial impact, the vehicle hit a chain-link fence and tree before becoming “engulfed in flames.”

First responders arrived on scene and transported the woman to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.

Both crashes currently remain under investigation, according to FHP.
