A 47-year-old Apopka man was killed on Tuesday morning after he was struck by a car while standing on the shoulder of Interstate 4 in Polk County.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 6:25 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, according to a preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
An FHP sergeant stated in the report that a 50-year-old Orlando man was traveling westbound on I-4 in a Toyota Camry.
At the same time, the Apopka man’s vehicle – a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck towing a trailer – was parked along the interstate’s outside paved shoulder.
As the Camry approached the parked pickup truck, the Orlando driver reportedly failed to maintain control of his vehicle. The Camry then reportedly veered onto the outside shoulder and struck the parked trailer before colliding with the Apopka man, who was standing outside of his truck.

The Apopka man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained during the crash.
No other injuries were reported, according to the report.
