A 41-year-old man was killed, and a 15-year-old girl was seriously injured, after their SUV was struck by another vehicle on State Road 46 in Volusia County.
The fatal collision occurred at around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, near the intersection of SR 46 and Morgan Alderman Road, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report stated that a 36-year-old man was traveling eastbound on SR 46 in a Ford Explorer when he approached a curve in the roadway. Moments later, the Ford “travel(ed) against the guardrail,” damaging the vehicle’s right side.
As a result, the Ford’s driver lost control of the vehicle and veered into the westbound lane, directly in the path of a Mitsubishi Outlander.
The front left side of the Ford reportedly struck the front left side of the Mitsubishi. Both vehicles then left the roadway and collided with the guardrail.
The Mitsubishi’s 41-year-old male driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The vehicle’s 15-year-old female passenger was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
An FHP trooper noted that the Ford’s driver sustained minor injuries and remained at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
