A 31-year-old Cocoa motorcyclist who was running late for work ended up in Brevard County Jail on Thursday after he was allegedly caught driving over 130 miles per hour on Interstate 95.

In a social media post on Thursday, July 2, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office stated that the incident began when Jonathan Jacobs Hernandez rapidly approached one of the agency’s marked cruisers from behind while traveling on the interstate.

The deputy inside the cruiser reported that the motorcycle was traveling at 132 mph while allegedly “lane splitting” and “weaving in and out of traffic.”

The motorcyclist, later identified as Hernandez, reportedly slowed down once he spotted the patrol vehicle, and a traffic stop was promptly conducted. According to BCSO, Hernandez allegedly “gave the excuse that he was late for work.”

Following the traffic stop, Hernandez was arrested and booked into Brevard County Jail. He is being charged with reckless driving and excessive speeding (100 mph or more).

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey stated on social media that Hernandez is “lucky to be alive driving like that on a motorcycle, let alone not causing an accident and hurting anyone else.”

A court date for Hernandez has not yet been scheduled, according to jail records.
