A 37-year-old man was killed on Wednesday night after a van reportedly struck him while he was lying on the roadway near a Volusia County intersection.
The fatal collision occurred on Spring Garden Avenue, in the vicinity of the Douglas Avenue intersection, shortly after 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that a Ford Transit van was traveling northbound in the inside lane of Spring Garden Avenue when it approached Douglas Avenue. At the same time, the 37-year-old pedestrian was lying on the roadway, within the same lane, for unknown reasons.
Moments later, the van struck the pedestrian. Paramedics quickly arrived on-scene and transported the pedestrian to AdventHealth DeLand, where he was pronounced deceased.
The van’s driver, identified in the report as a 63-year-old DeBary resident, was not hurt in the crash.
An FHP trooper noted that the deadly collision remains under investigation.
