A new TRON-themed ride has officially opened to the public at one of Disney World Orlando’s parks.
The TRON Lightcycle/Run celebrated its grand opening on Tuesday, April 4 in the Tomorrowland section of Magic Kingdom.
Billed as one of the fastest roller coasters at any Disney theme park in the world, the new attraction takes riders on a quest across the “Grid,” which is a computerized world with no horizons made popular in the TRON film series.
Each rider will climb aboard their own Lightcycle and race against Programs across the Grid until one team is declared victorious.
Released in 1982, the original TRON movie made cinematic history as the first film to feature a mix of live action, computer-generated visuals, and backlit animation. In 2010, the movie’s sequel TRON: Legacy was released and several years later, the park announced that it would make an attraction.
According to park officials, a virtual queue is in place for the new ride, meaning that guests will need to use the “My Disney Experience” app to enter the attraction.
Unlike many of the park’s rides, TRON Lightcycle/Run will not feature a standby queue and each guest may only enter the virtual queue no more than once per day during regular park hours. Boarding groups for the virtual queue are limited and are not guaranteed.
The ride is limited to kids, teens, and adults that are 48 inches or taller, and includes big drops, and sequences in the dark.
