Homeowner attacked with branch cutters, robbed during home invasion in Orlando

A 51-year-old Orlando man is facing multiple felony charges after he allegedly broke into a home, struck a homeowner in the head with branch cutters, and robbed the occupants in the home of cellphones and money.

Orlando Police Department officers arrested Lyndell Demps on Thursday, June 15, on a slew of charges related to a home invasion incident that took place around 2 a.m. that morning.

According to authorities, police responded after receiving calls regarding a home invasion in progress on Mallard Pond Court. A victim told police that a male suspect, later identified as Demps, had entered the back patio of the victim’s home.

When confronted by the homeowner, Demps allegedly armed himself with a pair of branch cutters and began attacking the homeowner, striking him in the head.

Demps then entered the home and attacked additional people inside before stealing their cellphones and money and fleeing the scene.

Law enforcement began canvassing the area and later that day, Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies interacted with a man who matched the description of the home invasion suspect.

Detectives were able to link some of Demps’ belongings and clothing to the home invasion robbery that took place earlier that day.

Demps was arrested and charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, obstructing justice, grand theft, and one count each of attempted felony murder and home invasion with a weapon.
