Two men killed; woman arrested for third DUI after running red light

A woman that has been convicted of at least three DUIs in the past decade, was arrested on multiple counts of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide after she ran a red light and crashed into a vehicle in east Orlando, killing two people.

The fatal accident took place near the intersection of Lake Underhill Road and Rouse Road on Sunday, July 9, at around 1:05 p.m., according to a police report filed by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The woman, who has since been identified as 40-year-old Leslie Madeleine Gehret of Orlando, was driving her 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound on Lake Underhill Road.

At the same time, a 50-year-old man from Windsor, Colorado was driving a 2021 Kia Soul eastbound on Lake Underhill Road. The man and his passenger, a 19-year-old man also from Windsor, began to make a left turn on a green traffic signal, entering the intersection.

As Gehret approached the intersection, she failed to stop her vehicle on a red traffic light. As a result, the front of her vehicle struck the right side of the Kia Soul, causing it to overturn multiple times.

The man driving the Kia was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. The passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Gehret was transported to AdventHealth East Hospital with minor injuries. She has since been arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail for two counts of DUI manslaughter, two counts of vehicular homicide, a third DUI violation within ten years, driving with a suspended license causing death, and violation of probation.
