70-year-old killed in Oviedo after woman turns on red light

A 70-year-old man from Winter Park was killed after his vehicle was struck by another vehicle that turned on a red light.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to the intersection of State Road 426 and Via Loma Drive in Oviedo at approximately 7:53 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, after receiving reports of a fatal accident.

According to the FHP report, the man was driving a 2019 RAM Promaster 1500 Van westbound on State Road 426, approaching Via Loma Drive.

At the same time, a 31-year-old woman from Oviedo was driving her 2019 Ford Fusion northbound on Via Loma Drive, approaching the intersection of SR 426.

The woman attempted to make a left turn on a red light to travel westbound on SR 426. As a result, she entered the direct path of the van, causing a collision.

The impact caused the van to overturn onto its right side, according to authorities.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The woman was not injured in the crash.
