Local dentist gets two years in prison for stealing $600,000 from IRS

An Altamonte Springs dentist will spend the next two years behind bars for not paying over $600,000 in income taxes that he owed to the Internal Revenue service.

Frantz Brignol, of Eustis, was sentenced to two years in federal prison for tax evasion by Senior Judge Gregory A. Presnell of the U.S. Middle District Court of Florida last week. Brignol was found guilty by a jury of one count of failing to file a tax return in August.

According to court records, Brignol worked as a dentist at Sage Dental in Altamonte Springs. During his time at the establishment, Brignol amassed more than $600,000 in tax liabilities with the Internal Revenue Service.

Between 2014 and 2020, Brignol directed hundreds of thousands of dollars in earnings to his mother’s bank accounts, for which he had signatory authority. The move allowed Brignol to effectively evade tax payments on his earnings.

Additionally, Brignol traded funds overseas in his mother’s name and failed to disclose a bank account to the IRS. In 2020, Brignol did not file an income tax return, despite having an annual income of more than $200,000.

Brignol, who was indicted last November. He had faced a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison.
