Universal previews new Harry Potter, Super Nintendo worlds at Epic Universe

Universal Orlando announced details on the five worlds of its new Epic Universe, which will nearly double the size of the park.

On Tuesday, the company provided new details about the park, which will feature five new worlds: Celestial Park, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, Super Nintendo World, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter Ministry of Magic.

In a 7-minute video posted to the company’s website, Universal executives and personalities, including Stephen Spielberg and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mark Woodbury, offered brief descriptions of some of the “50 unique compelling experiences” that will fill the park.

Each section of the park will feature multiple rides, attractions, shops, and dining options.

The park opens with a large “chronos” that leads visitors through a “portal” into the Epic Universe’s first section, Celestial Park.

According to the company, Celestial Park will “put the park back into theme park” and will feature intricate landscaping, water displays, and three attractions, including a cosmos-inspired carousel and dancing water fountains.

Also among the attractions is Starfall Racers, a dual-launch roller coaster wherein riders will “race through the sky upon a shooting star,” according to the company.

In the How To Train Your Dragon, Isle of Berk will feature “the world’s first dragon-viking utopia,” as popularized in the film series. Officials billed the section as the “ultimate wish fulfillment” of flying dragons.

Both Dark Universe and Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic will expand upon classic and modern brands owned by the company. In the former, the company says it will reimagine its classic monsters into a “chilling experience” for fans of horror.

In the Ministry of Magic, the park will expand its Wizarding World of Harry Potter into a section themed around Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and its setting of 1920’s Paris and the British wizard agency popularized in the Harry Potter series.

To close out Epic Universe is perhaps the most highly-anticipated section, Super Nintendo World, which will feature Mario, Donkey Kong, Peach, and other popular Nintendo characters.

In addition to attractions, the park will also feature the Universal Helios Grand Hotel, a 500-room facility that will be integrated “like no other theme park in the world,” according to Woodbury.

“Epic Universe is built on an amazing concept,” said Spielberg, who has created several critically acclaimed films under the Universal umbrella.

Last year, Loews Hotels announced two new resorts that will serve Epic Universe: Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort. The resorts are scheduled to open in January 2025.
