Driver killed after crashing into pole off Turnpike

A 35-year-old was killed after losing control of his vehicle on the Florida Turnpike and crashing into a concrete pole.

The fatal accident took place near mile marker 254 in the southbound lanes of the turnpike at around 1:11 a.m. on Friday, March 1.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver, who was from Auburndale, was driving a 2014 Honda Accord southbound on the highway, near the exit ramp to State Road 528.

The driver failed to negotiate a curve and, as a result, ran off the left side of the roadway and onto the grass shoulder. After running off the roadway, the vehicle collided with a concrete pole.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
