Victim in hit-and-run arrested after chasing down and shooting at fleeing car

A man who was the victim of a hit-and-run accident has been arrested for attempted murder after he allegedly followed the car that caused the crash and fired a shot at the driver.

Shemari Sherard Mckenzie, 25, was arrested on multiple felony charges on Thursday, February 29, according to a statement from the Orlando Police Department.

Mckenzie was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident that took place on February 12. During that incident, Mckenzie was involved in an accident with another vehicle near the area of Balboa Drive and Nowell Street.

According to authorities, the at-fault vehicle left the scene of the crash before police arrived. As the at-fault vehicle was leaving the scene, Mckenzie, who was in the other vehicle, began following the vehicle.

During the pursuit, Mckenzie allegedly pointed a gun at the driver of the vehicle before firing one round. The round impacted the vehicle’s front window but did not strike the driver.

Mckenzie fled the scene after firing the shot.

Mckenzie is charged with attempted second degree murder with a firearm, shooting from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of a person, aggravated assault with a firearm, and shooting into an occupied vehicle. He is currently being held at the Orange County Jail.
