City officials appoint board, begin process to redistrict Orlando

City officials have appointed a new board that will help reshape Orlando for the next decade.

During Monday’s meeting of the Orlando City Council, commissioners appointed a group of nine local residents to the Redistricting Advisory Board. The board will take the lead in conducting public outreach efforts and will formulate a redistricting recommendation for the council to consider this June.

The board includes three appointees by Mayor Buddy Dyer (Roger Chapin, Alana Brenner, Sharon Riley), and one appointee by each commissioner. Those appointees include Chuck Holmes (District 1), Orlando Robles (District 2), Katie Flury (District 3), Dan Kirby (District 4), Greg Lee (District 5), and Alejandro Pezzini (District 6).

According to city officials, the board will host a series of public meetings for the community across each of the six districts. Those sessions are open to the public and will allow attendees to provide input regarding proposed changes to the districts.

In addition to community meetings, the city is also soliciting input from residents through its online portal. To learn more about how residents can provide input, visit the City of Orlando Redistricting webpage.
