Orlando man who robbed banks one day after 8-year prison release, facing possible life sentence

A 59-year-old Orlando man who spent eight years behind bars for robbing banks, is facing the possibility of life behind bars for bank robberies he allegedly committed the day after his release.

Timothy Paul Jones was indicted on two counts of bank robbery this week by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida. If convicted, Jones faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 10 years for each count, and could face up to life in prison. The indictment also indicates that the Jones must forfeit $80,000 that were traceable to the offenses committed.

According to police, on Thursday, June 2, a man later identified as Jones walked into the Truist Bank at 11200 S Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando at around 9:55 a.m. Jones implied he had a gun, robbed the bank of at least $30,000, and forced an employee to accompany him before he carjacked a vehicle to flee the scene.

A week later, Jones allegedly pulled a similar heist and stole another $50,000 from a bank in Kissimmee.

Court records show that Jones had been released from prison on Wednesday, June 1, after serving an eight-year sentence for bank robbery stemming from a case in 2013.

Jones’ trial has been set for October 3, with a pre-trial conference scheduled for September 21, according to Orange County court records.
